iPod Bingo

I was invited to a night of Disco Bingo in December. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it, because I was overseas.

I am still not sure what Disco Bingo actually is, and while pondering it, I came up with a new trivia party game to try.

Each player is handed a card, with a 5×5 grid of random music titles (or the names of the artists, if you want to make it harder) from a set of, say, 100 tunes.

An iPod, or similar, is set-up with speakers, and a set of samples (perhaps 5 seconds each) from each tune. It is then set to shuffle, and someone presses play.

Each person must try to recognise the sample, and, if present, cross it off the card. The first person to cross-off five titles in any row or column yells “Bingo!”

Does that sound like fun?

Let me try that question again. If you were the sort of person who liked trivia party games, would that sound like fun?

The next step to automate this would be to write some software that sifted through your music collection, printed the cards, made its own random samples from the music, played them and then confirmed each call of “Bingo” as legitimate.

  1. Sounds similar to the Music Quiz game that is on all (non-shuffle) iPods.
