I believe that a professional racing-car driver with a secret identity who wanted to broadcast secret messages to terrorist organisations, could do so by encrypting their messages in their lap-times.

Perhaps we are all being fooled by an expert in stiganography.

Don’t blame me. I tried to warn you.

  1. That’s certainly funnier than any of the rubbish those Australian blokes are coming out with ..

  2. Best groan I’ve had in ages. Well done.
What’s most depressing is wondering how small is the proportion of people who would get this.
ie: I can’t think of anyone I can pass it on to.
(Obviously the proportion among readers of this blog would be much higher of course.)

  3. Did you mean: steganography ? Or is there a racing car driver with a name starting with “stiga”?

  4. Julie, you were close. I guess you’ve never seen Top Gear.

  5. I’m glad I stayed on the sidelines until Julie came along, as I was having similar thoughts. And have never seen Top Gear.

(It so happens I am a car enthusiast and racing fan, though.)

  6. I laughed out loud… even after being led to the joke by the nose. I’ve only ever seen the episode of Top Gear where they try to kill a Toyota Ute/Truck. I’m pretty sure they didn’t try to set a power lap time in it.

  7. I’m also feeling better now that I’ve read some of these other comments. It seems that my situation of having friends that have heard of ‘steganography’ and friends that have seen ‘Top Gear’ but no intersection between these two groups is not so weird after all. It’s also oddly comforting to see something similar amoung the readers (or at least the commenters) of OddThinking.
