People <em>do<\/em> care about dreams. Let me mine the seam a little.<\/p>\n<p>Once I dreamt that someone told me a very funny riddle. I half-awoke in the middle of the night, still smirking. What&#8217;s more, I could still remember it!  I was very impressed. I had dreamt up a funny joke, literally.<\/p>\n<p>A vaguely disturbing thought occurred to me. (Actually, in my sleep-haze it was more a disturbing, vague thought.) What if the riddle wasn&#8217;t really that funny? Maybe I just dreamt that it was funny. I resolved to memorise the joke and assess its humour in the morning when I was more clear-headed. <\/p>\n<p>I rolled over and went back to sleep. I had a second dream. In this dream, I was surrounded by a group of friends. I told them the riddle, and they all laughed uproarishly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Cool,&#8221; I thought, &#8220;Independent verification! It really is funny!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So now I can tell you the riddle, completely confident that it is a crowd-killer.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Q: Why do colleges have three-year degree courses?<\/p>\n<p>A: Because they count windows.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ho ho! Gee, I crack me up. That&#8217;s a good one&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Huh? What do you mean you don&#8217;t get it?  This is pure grade-A comedy, man. What&#8217;s wrong with you?<\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t you see the sly poke at the rival university to the one I attended? Can&#8217;t you see how it subtly suggests that they are innumerate? <\/p>\n<p>Gee, some people have no sense of humour&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once I dreamt that someone told me a very funny riddle.
