{"id":223,"date":"2006-03-28T19:19:25","date_gmt":"2006-03-28T08:19:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.somethinkodd.com\/oddthinking\/2006\/03\/28\/settling-up-the-tabs\/"},"modified":"2007-12-30T21:08:56","modified_gmt":"2007-12-30T11:08:56","slug":"settling-up-the-tabs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.somethinkodd.com\/oddthinking\/2006\/03\/28\/settling-up-the-tabs\/","title":{"rendered":"Settling Up the Tabs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Both Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 Beta have a tick in the &#8220;Tabbed Browsing&#8221; box on their feature list.<\/p>\n<p>Tabs are really yet another <a href=\"http:\/\/girtby.net\/archives\/2005\/03\/31\/what-does-this-button-do\/\">weird compromise<\/a> between MDI and SDI. <\/p>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, old-school Windows users like me try to close a tab by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.somethinkodd.com\/oddthinking\/2005\/04\/10\/close-that-window\">closing a window<\/a>. Finding the &#8220;close tab&#8221; icon hidden halfway along the tab bar is still unnatural to me.<\/p>\n<p>Both the Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 developers gave some thought to people like me. They realised their weird hybrids were going to confuse me, and they warn me that I am being stupid&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image222\" alt=\"Firefox's Dialog Box when closing multiple tabs\" src=\"http:\/\/www.somethinkodd.com\/oddthinking\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/03\/FF_multitab_close.PNG\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image221\" alt=\"Internet Explorer's Dialog Box when closing multiple tabs\" src=\"http:\/\/www.somethinkodd.com\/oddthinking\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/03\/IE_multitab_close.PNG\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Thanks very much for the thought, guys.<\/p>\n<p>But in the respective next version, can I please have another choice?
