You may notice some trivial changes to the menu on the left of the OddThinking theme.<\/p>\n

The list of categories, which appeared suddenly when I upgraded to WordPress 2.1.1<\/a> have again been banished. I think they clutter the place up and don’t add much. If you like a post, you can find more like it, by selecting one of the categories. However, I can’t imagine the use-case where you decide the click on the category you haven’t seen before as being at all common, and not worth the clutter.<\/p>\n

The blogroll, which disappeared suddenly at the same time, remains banished. I apologise to the owners who have blogs that used to get PageRank from me, but I am beginning to see blogrolls as out-dated clutter.<\/p>\n

The list of archive links were growing too long – a list of 24 items is a bit clumsy. I have changed them to use a compact monthly archive format that you can see on the left. The result is a lot less cruft, which is always a design goal.<\/p>\n

“How did he do that?”, I hear you ask. Well, first I installed the Sidebar Widgets plug-in<\/a> that everyone was buzzing about almost a year ago. Then I wrote my first very own widget to display the compact monthly archives, which I have called “Compact Monthly Archive Widget”. It is in beta at the moment, and I will publish it shortly.<\/p>\n

If you have any comments about the widget and its usability, please let me know.<\/p>\n

I guess I should open this up. If you have any comments on the usability of OddThinking, please slag me openly below. I can take it. Yes, even comments about the colours.<\/p>\n
