He had spent too much time studying it for his PhD thesis.<\/p>\n<p>That didn&#8217;t mean he ruled out eating meat entirely, and as a struggling student in the late 1960s, he once took home a recently killed sheep; it had been used in an experiment that wouldn&#8217;t taint the meat, so he decided to butcher it at home.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, while transporting it in the boot of his car, he spilled some blood on the outside, and obviously didn&#8217;t clean it up quickly enough. Somebody noticed it, the police became involved and he was detained, all the while protesting his innocence.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, the forensics came back. According to their 1960s state-of-the-art testing lab, the blood was not human, it was <em>avian<\/em>!
