Online Photo DB: Stage 6 – Privacy Requirements clarification

This post is part of the Online Photo Database project documentation. Learn more about the project’s current status.

While evaluating the privacy features of the on-line photo databases, I realised they weren’t quite meeting my privacy needs, but I couldn’t say why.

To resolve that, I explored the scenarios that required privacy, so I could then see if the tools met them.

Here is the result of that exploration.

Scenario 1: Permission To Publish

Dear Ali, in this photo of you doing a cartwheel, we can see your underwear. Is it okay to publish this?

or

Dear Bobby and Charlie, I took this photo of you two kissing when you thought no-one could see you. It is very sweet. Is it okay to publish this?”

Scenario 2: Clashing Worlds

Dear Ali, Bobby and Charlie, here are the photos I took of our little lovenest in Vegas. Obviously, my boss can never know.

Scenario 3: Not of General Interest

Note to self: Here are the photos of the Vegas hotel room as we moved in. This may be useful if they try to claim we damaged the chandeliers.

Scenario 4: Ghost of Photographs Past

Julian, I don’t mind you having that photo up of me looking bleary-eyed with two beers in my hands, and Ali and Bobby on my knee, but I would rather it didn’t appear in any Google searches on my name. – Charlie
